Nextnano-Workshop was a full success

On the 09.-10.09.2019 a QuantumFrontiers workshop on the semiconductor simulation software nextnano took place at the Laboratory of Emerging Nanometrology (LENA) in Braunschweig. The presented software “nextnano” is specialized on the simulation of semiconductor nanodevices by combining a current-Poisson solver with fully quantum mechanical calculations of the electronic structure. Applications include nanotransistors, LEDs, laser diodes, quantum dots, nanowires, quantum cascade lasers, HEMTs, infrared detectors and solar cells.

22 researchers from 8 different research groups of TUBS, LUH and PTB were participating in the workshop. The workshop was divided into two parts. On Monday afternoon, the CEO of nextnano, Stefan Birner, was presenting the software and explaining the simulation algorithm. The second part was organized as a hand-on workshop, where the participants were working with the software on their own laptop and could choose from many different tutorials to understand the diverse options and applications of nextnano. Application strategies for the individual simulation tasks of the audience were discussed as well. A three month licence was included for all participants which should be sufficient to evaluate the suitability for their individual tasks.

The workshop turned out to be a very good introduction for future work with the software and supports collaboration between different research groups within the Cluster of Excellence.
